Self Care Hidden Gems: Maui Sauna Spots

by Adelle Brianne

I’m a huge fan of day spas and self care, so naturally I’ve been to many of the spas on Maui. I’ve been the higher priced resort spas in Wailea, Kapalua and Ka’anapali as well as some of the more affordable smaller day spas around the island. When you search online, I noticed about half or more of the top results are out of business or changed locations, etc so I want to help you out if you’re looking for a Maui sauna, hot tub, steam room, massage, etc.

Before the pandemic, I was a spa club member in Wailea but that ended years ago, so I thought it’s a good time to share my personal firsthand experience with Maui spas with aquatherapy and offer a current list of day spas with saunas and other aquatherapy perks!

Top 5 Maui Saunas to visit in 2024

  1. Savage Farms Wellness CenterMaui Day Spa with sauna, massage therapy, flower bath, hot tea, organic farm to table lunch. One hour up to three hour spa packages available. This newer Wailuku activity is truly a hidden gem and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the optional farm-to-table lunch which is AMAZING and unlike any other Maui dining experience. Kama’aina rates. Easy online booking at sunnysavage.com. This Wailuku day spa is located near Iao Congressional Church; drive down Uhiwai Street and take a right turn. Drive straight toward the white building directly in front of you on the very short street. Pull straight in and park.
  2. Spa Montage – Don’t hate me for choosing one of the spendier spas on Maui! Located on the Montage Kapalua Bay property, this luxury day spa offers a private aquatherapy space with a bamboo waterfall, cedar wood sauna and cascading whirlpool. I recommend this spot as a romantic date for couples or a self care splurge.
  3. Temple of Peace Aqualani Spa – Okay, so my luxury babes, skip this one because you won’t be satisfied by this “hippie spa”! It’s a rustic Haiku aquatherapy spot featuring a hot tub, sauna, cold plunge and steam room plus private showers and changing room. The bathroom is located separately from the aquatherapy zone so I recommend using it before you begin so you don’t have to get dressed and walk back up to the front to use it mid-session. There’s usually parking right out front. The interior is decorated with chakra flags, lava lamps, mood lighting… overall the vibe feels healing and soothing, albeit far from luxury. However the space is always clean and is a nice north shore sauna option suitable for small groups, solo sessions or couples.
  4. ‘Awili Spa at Andaz Maui – Back to the luxury spas… One perk I enjoy when visiting the Andaz spa on Maui is dipping into the swimming pool before or after my treatment. You can arrive early and take a dip in the pool or catch a quick sun session before indulging inside the spa. (Tip: double-check and confirm when booking your reservation, in case this policy ever changes…) The sauna and hot tub are located inside the women’s private changing area, so you can’t enjoy the sauna with your partner unless you’re both women.
